Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then located numerous other smeared cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations suggest the substance was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior representative stated the incident rendered him stunned and had to be resolved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the death of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
